After six years of success in Poway, Co-Owners Katie Rooney and Frank Interlandi will provide coastal patrons with a new dining spot that offers fresh fish daily, an extensive list of beverages and happy hour specials. The Encinitas Sushi Lounge concept was born.
The original Poway Sushi Lounge was an idea conceived by two friends while working together for another restaurant, Sushi on the Rock in La Jolla and Carlsbad. Katie Rooney was the Catering Director, having started the department after opening the Carlsbad location and being the Manager of Operations for both locations. Frank Interlandi assisted in the opening of Carlsbad and was the Head Chef at that location. He worked for the company for seven years, starting in La Jolla, and was the main catering chef. The two friends purchased Sushi Poway in 2006 and began three months of remodeling and changes and emerged with a new menu, fresh new décor, and a whole new feel. Poway Sushi Lounge offers a fresh alternative with emphasis on the freshest ingredients, a warm inviting atmosphere, superior service and a relaxed friendly vibe.
“Frank and I have worked hard to build and maintain a solid reputation in Poway and given the demographics, the beach is an ideal location for our expansion,” said Katie Rooney, Co-Owner of Encinitas Sushi Lounge. “We’re extremely fortunate to have a great team in place that has the same passion and dedication for providing exceptional sushi and superior customer service as we do.” “Not only will we have a large sushi bar, but we’ll have a bar area that will feature a lot of fun wines, saketini’s, mixed sake drinks and infusions,” said Rooney. “Our guests are definitely in for a treat and we can’t wait to share the experience with them. Cheers!” A recipient of numerous awards, including 10 News’ A-List for three consecutive years, the owners are excited to welcome back former colleague, John Zamora, who will head the sushi bar alongside Interlandi. Steve Town will join the team as General Manager and Partner of the new location.
